CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO THE CONVENTION

Tom spotted this hill looming over the convention the day we arrived and we decided we should all climb it. It wasn't easy to get there. Driving only led us farther astray.
The expedition hasn't even started and it's already down to just Tom and me. Here's our first obstacle, a swolen river in New Philidelphia. I suppose it has a name.
More bridges. We had to cross that first bridge, which, for future reference, is an off-ramp from the freeway, and then go under the one you see behind it. Thorns and a muddy tributary awaited us if we slipped.
Stage 2 of the actual climb up the hill. As you can see, we found a trail used by kids on four-wheelers. Or rampaging ghouls. I'm not sure.
The obelisk.
Several more pictures along the bluff. The trail went along this way for a while.

The trail finally wound around the edge of the bluff and up to another level area, where a crude altar had been erected by the local cultists.
Here's another picture of Tom leaving me behind as we continue the climb. And isn't that a neat tree?
Here I am on the hilltop. "Oooh, there's some unusual lichen on this stick!"
"Hey Tom! Come look at this! I found a new lichen!"
"Tom?"
"Oh no! My camera! Quick, toss it up here before you go over the edge!"
"Good throw, Tom! Seeya at the bottom!"
Here's our hotel from the hilltop. It's the Holiday Inn, the white L-shape on the other side of that Motel 6. Too bad Tom's not here to see it.
